Natural Gas Leaks, Odors or Emergencies

In Our Community

Community Relations

We Put Our Energy Here
Through its many subsidiaries, including Atlanta Gas Light, AGL Resources touches nearly 2.2 million residents in nine states. We are proud to have been part of the fabric of our communities for more than 150 years. We believe that part of our corporate responsibility is to give back to our communities, and our philanthropic focus is designed to make a meaningful impact in the community we serve.

Areas of Focus
To make the most meaningful impact in our communities, Atlanta Gas Light focuses on these distinct areas of giving:

  • Energy Assistance: We support programs which primarily help low-income households and low-income senior citizens afford their natural gas energy consumption. These programs include weatherization projects and emergency energy assistance.
  • Education: With an emphasis in literacy, math and science, this support includes public secondary schools (K-12); public and private colleges and universities.
  • Environmental Stewardship: We support projects such as clean air, conservation, and greenspace.
  • Community Enrichment: We support programs specific to minority leadership, women leadership, arts and culture, business leadership and/or economic development.

AGL Resources Private Foundation
We are proud to be a partner in the communities we serve. We strive to maintain a keen sensitivity to issues affecting our communities and our business. We show our dedication and corporate citizenship through our various foundation grants, community outreach programs, and other corporate charitable giving programs. We realize that we cannot support every worthy cause in all our communities and make a meaningful impact. Therefore, most grants approved by the foundation are for organizations that already have historical partnerships with the foundation and are within our service territories – Georgia, Florida, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, Tennessee, and Texas.  Unsolicited grant requests are welcomed, but most are rarely approved by the foundation.

V-Force: Employee Volunteers in Action

Cooking Up Meaningful Service
Take 210 members of the V-Force. Stir in approximately 1,470 hours of hard work. Bake for seven weekends. It’s a recipe for success as AGL Resources volunteers complete their sixth Habitat for Humanity House in Atlanta.

“I’m sure helping a young mother realize her dream of having a home of her own was as rewarding to the other volunteers as it was to me,” says Donna Peeples, vice president, Sales and Marketing, who was executive sponsor for the project. “At the dedication, the proud, new homeowner said she couldn’t believe that we built her house and gave her family gifts as well.”

Shining Light Award
The Shining Light Award was established in 1963 by Atlanta Gas Light and News/Talk 750 WSB Radio. Each year the award recognizes a Georgian who has been an inspiration to the lives of others through service to humanity. A gas lamp and plaque is installed in their honor at a site of their choice.  Learn more about Shining Light Award >
