Natural Gas Leaks, Odors or Emergencies

Atlanta Gas Light employees support Earth Day with park clean-up

April 22, 2008

ATLANTA – April 22, 2008 - Atlanta Gas Light has joined with Park Pride, a non-profit parks and green space organization, in support of Earth Day. Employees of Atlanta Gas Light and Park Pride volunteers will pick up trash along Freedom Parkway to celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22.

A grassroots effort to save the environment almost 40 years ago, Earth Day has blossomed into a world-wide endeavor. Earth Day activities in Atlanta range from recycling and unplugging appliances to car-pooling and educational exhibits. All are ways to reduce our effect on the environment, a top priority for Atlanta Gas Light.

“As a natural gas company, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and those of our customers,” said Suzanne Sitherwood, president Atlanta Gas Light. “Our employees who participate in Earth Day initiatives reinforce that goal.”

The efficiency and environmental friendliness of natural gas means that homes using it for heating, hot water and other appliances produce about 40 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions than homes using electric appliances for these services.

Natural gas is the cleanest burning and most efficient fossil fuel, to help us bridge to America’s energy future.
