LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.  – JUNE 25, 2008 – Former North Gwinnett County High School graduate Amena Warrayat is one of four Georgia students to receive a scholarship from AGL Resources, the parent company of Atlanta Gas Light this year.

While attending North Gwinnett County High School Amena was a member of the National Honors Society, the Science National Honors Society and Future Business Leaders of America. She made the Dean’s List and volunteered as a math and science tutor for other students.  Amena Warrayat is the daughter of Jamal Warrayat and Amal Al Koka of Sugar Hill, Ga.

When Amena isn’t busy studying, she is spokesperson for the debate team, and a treasurer for the Future Educators of America.

Amena will use her $1,000 scholarship to attend Georgia Tech, where she plans to study mathematics. Atlanta Gas Light, a subsidiary of AGL Resources, is proud to add Amena as a scholarship award winner.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce Amena Warrayat as one of our latest scholarship recipients,” said Suzanne Sitherwood, president, Atlanta Gas Light. “Amena is among a very talented group of young people who will represent their families and Atlanta Gas Light well.”

Each year Atlanta Gas Light presents, on behalf of the AGL Resources Private Foundation, awards of $1,000 scholarships to students attending four-year colleges and universities, and $500 scholarships for students attending two-year junior and community colleges or vocational-technical schools.

The scholarships are awarded to deserving students whose parents are AGL Resources employees. In addition to this year’s 5 scholarship recipients, the company is renewing the scholarships of 13 previous recipients who have continued to show outstanding progress in college.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic record, leadership, community service, honors, work experience, and career and educational goals.
