EASTMAN, Ga. – JUNE 25, 2008 – Former Douglas County High School graduate Blake Burnham is one of four Georgia students to receive a scholarship from AGL Resources, the parent company of Atlanta Gas Light.
While attending Dodge County High School, Blake was on the Dean’s List and received the Dodge County Young Farmers Scholarship Award. Blake Burnham is the son of Timmy and Robin Burnham of Eastman, Ga.
When Blake isn’t busy studying, he enjoys hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and tennis.
Blake will use his $1,000 scholarship to attend Armstrong Atlantic State University, where he will study nursing.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce Blake Burnham as one of our latest scholarship recipients,” said Suzanne Sitherwood, president, Atlanta Gas Light. “Blake is among a very talented group of young people who will represent their families and Atlanta Gas Light well.”
Each year Atlanta Gas Light presents, on behalf of the AGL Resources Private Foundation, awards of $1,000 scholarships to students attending four-year colleges and universities, and $500 scholarships for students attending two-year junior and community colleges or vocational-technical schools.
The scholarships are awarded to deserving students whose parents are AGL Resources employees. In addition to this year’s 5 scholarship recipients, the company is renewing the scholarships of 13 previous recipients who have continued to show outstanding progress in college.
Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic record, leadership, community service, honors, work experience, and career and educational goals.
