Atlanta Gas Light Partners with Premier Transportation on Second CNG Station Opening Under AGL CNG Program

ATLANTA, April 16, 2014 – Atlanta Gas Light, a subsidiary of AGL Resources, joined trucking and logistics company Premier Transportation on Monday to commemorate the opening of the second public access compressed natural gas (CNG) station developed under the AGL CNG Infrastructure Program.

Several key officials gathered to celebrate the latest expansion of CNG stations in Georgia, which supports the growth of fueling infrastructure for natural gas vehicles.

“This project would not be possible without the support of the Georgia Public Service Commission,” said Bryan Batson, president of Atlanta Gas Light. “CNG infrastructure in Georgia is gaining momentum that will advance the use of natural gas vehicles in the future.”

Mike Medici, president & CEO of Premier Transportation, recognized the collaboration between Atlanta Gas Light and Premier, as well as the support of Peach State Freightliner, which supplies Premier’s trucks. “This has been a very smooth project, and we are really excited to celebrate the station opening with each of you,” he said. Medici stated the CNG station opening was in line with Premier Transportation’s long-term plans to convert 20 percent of their total fleet of Class 8 tractor-trailers to CNG by the end of 2016.

Georgia Public Service Commissioner Doug Everett noted that the conversation to invest in CNG infrastructure began more than four years ago. “The innovative approach for AGL to build stations using the Universal Service Fund was developed in collaboration with the commission and multiple other parties to make projects like this one feasible,” said Everett.  “Today’s CNG station opening is a great example of how public-private partnerships work.”

Don Francis, executive director for Clean Cities Georgia, emphasized the importance of reducing the nation’s dependency on foreign oil and lauded AGL and Premier Transportation for their partnership. “Natural gas is American; it’s ours,” said Francis. “We have 13 CNG stations open around the state, and we have even more planned to open in the future.”
