Our Community Impact

Atlanta Gas Light employees are inextricably woven into the communities we are privileged to serve. We maintain local offices across our service territory, you might see our crews working in your neighborhood or find us at community events.

Opportunities for employees to volunteer for community outreach are available with the Atlanta chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and the Junior Achievement of Atlanta, just to name a few. We also welcome opportunities to visit schools to educate students about careers in natural gas and natural gas safety. Additionally, the second week in May is Volunteer Week at Atlanta Gas Light, where employees participate in volunteer activities both big and small.

Watch and listen to Atlanta Gas Light President Bryan Batson talk about our commitment and service to the communities where our customers live and work.

Marietta Service Center Educates Hightower Trail Middle School at Career Day

In January 2019, Atlanta Gas Light employees (Randall Spencer, Matt Ramsey and Jamie Argueta) attended Career Day at Hightower Trail Middle School and spoke with 8th graders about our natural gas business. The field representatives described our corporate structure, field operations job opportunities and company culture. They also demonstrated our personal protection equipment. The students were very bright, attentive and asked thought-provoking questions.

Atlanta Regional Business Center Ribbon Cutting

In December 2018, 150 Atlanta Metro service center employees moved from a 10,000 square-foot facility to a newly constructed 51,000 square-foot service center facility. The facility provides better access to customers and demonstrates a commitment to energy efficiency, with features such as low-flow water fixtures and energy efficient LED lighting. The heating and air system is comprised of natural gas heat pumps. Water-efficient landscaping and building materials that reflect heat and reduce light pollution are other environmentally-friendly features. Longstanding working relationships with DeKalb County and Georgia Public Service Commissioners made the move possible.

Savannah Toy Drive Donation

For the past several years, children and parents spending their holidays in Savannah at the Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital have been treated to a holiday surprise as employees from our Brunswick, Jesup, Savannah, Valdosta, Vidalia and Waycross service centers delivered thousands of toys.

Atlanta Women's Build
In 2011, Atlanta Gas Light began supporting the Atlanta Women’s Build, which are homes entirely built by women, for women. Habitat created Women’s Build events in 1991 to provide the opportunity for women to take a proactive step in serving their communities. Women and children are the most likely segment of the population to be affected by poor living conditions. Last October, Atlanta Gas Light sent a group of women to participate in the Habitat Women’s Build event on October 27. Two homes were built in the Hammond Park neighborhood of Atlanta for two single moms and their families.

Energy Education
We hosted a natural gas series for Energy Pathway teachers so they can teach Georgia high school students about the future of energy.

Volunteer Week
The second week in May is Volunteer Week at Atlanta Gas Light. In 2018, employees helped construct a home for what was our 28th Atlanta Habit for Humanity build. Atlanta Gas Light also donated a piece of property for a home to be built for a Habitat home to be built for a veteran. Learn More >>

Senior Connections
All year long, our Conyers Service center employees set aside time to pack meals for the Meals on Wheels program for Senior Connections, a nonprofit organization that ensures metro Atlanta seniors are able to live at home through nutrition, home-care, home repair and health and wellness classes.

Career Day
Last fall, our Cumming Service Center participated in Career Day at Shiloh Point Elementary School. A crew leader and crew member provided four 30-minute presentations to third grade classes, including demonstrations of equipment used during the daily work life of a below ground distribution crew. In, total they spoke to 198 students who were very curious and had great questions!

Equipment Show
Thanks to everyone who came out to see us at the APWA GA Chapter Equipment Show at the GA National Fairgrounds in Perry.

STEM Education
In 2018, the Carolyn Young Mentor Walk hosted about 300 students from Atlanta Public Schools and we were there to teach students about careers in STEM. We also had a great time at the Skills USA Career Expo teaching students what it takes to work in the natural gas industry.

March for Babies
We’ve been a proud supporter of the Atlanta March for Babies for more than 15 years! In 2018, we walked in the March for Babies event as a gold sponsor.

Safety First
Atlanta Gas Light hosted a Winter Fire Safety Expo in February 2018 in the atrium of Atlanta’s City Hall.

Disaster Relief
In 2018, Georgia Power and Atlanta Gas Light presented a $20,000 donation to the Southwest Georgia Red Cross  to assist Georgians impacted by severe storms.
