Atlanta Gas Light continuously monitors and upgrades its distribution system to provide safe and reliable service to homes and businesses. Customers directly affected by pipeline replacement projects will receive a letter before work begins and as work progresses. During the work, there may be temporary inconveniences (noise, lane closures, etc.) but we strive to minimize impacts.
The process often involves replacing the gas main along the street or behind the curb. In multi-unit residential or business complexes, the work often occurs in common areas. The work may also include the replacement or transfer of service lines to individual homes and businesses. In order to complete the work, gas service to affected homes and businesses will be interrupted for a short period of time. An authorized contractor or Atlanta Gas Light representative will schedule a time with the property owner to enter the home or business and relight all working gas appliances once the service connection is complete. Property owners should NOT attempt to relight their own pilot lights.
Our authorized contractors also handle property restoration as the project progresses with final cleanup once it is finished. The time it takes to complete each project depends upon a variety of factors, including the amount of pipe being replaced, the weather, the location of existing utilities, etc. Atlanta Gas Light makes every effort to complete each project as quickly and efficiently as possible.
