First phase of the project set to begin in Mid- May

ATLANTA – May 8, 2023 – Atlanta Gas Light soon will begin construction on its Buford Highway Expansion Project - the company’s latest pipeline enhancement project - designed to strengthen the safety, reliability and resiliency of its infrastructure.

Crews will replace existing natural gas mains along Central Avenue in Doraville and along Buford Highway from Central Avenue to Old Norcross Road. The work will be completed in phases over the next two years. Property owners along the project path will be notified prior to work in their area. The first phase begins in mid-May and runs from Central Avenue to just north of Oakcliff Road.

To limit the company’s impact to the community, most of the work will occur overnight. Project work hours are expected to be Saturday through Friday 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The project will require lane closures for the safety of the community and crews. Traffic control measures will be in place. Community members also can expect additional personnel, vehicles and increased noise during the work.

“The Buford Highway Replacement Project is key to our ability to continue to serve this high-density, high-growth corridor,” said Dean Marianos, Vice President of Operations for Atlanta Gas Light. “We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to meet its growing needs.”
