DeKalb County's CNG Stations

DeKalb County’s second government-owned compressed natural gas (CNG) station is now open, providing fill-ups for garbage trucks, pickups and other vehicles that run on natural gas. The station, located off I-285 near Memorial Drive, will be used primarily by county vehicles, and is available to the general public. Located at 3720 Leroy Scott Drive near Decatur, the station comprises two fueling lanes, with three standard capacity and one high capacity fuel dispensers. Open 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.

MARTA Powered by CNG – Atlanta, GA

Atlanta Gas Light and Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), which operates the city’s transit bus system, partnered in the early 1990s to develop one of the nation’s first CNG public transit bus programs. Atlanta Gas Light maintains three CNG stations for MARTA’s 370 CNG buses, which saves millions in fuel costs, displaces millions of gallons of oil each year and reduces emissions by millions of pounds of pollutants.

Langdale Fuel Adds Public Access CNG Station – Valdosta, GA

Langdale Fuel Co. in Valdosta, GA, partnered with Atlanta Gas Light to open a public access fast-fill CNG station, the first of its kind in South Georgia. Opened in August 2013, this station has four dispenser hoses to fuel all sizes of vehicles from passenger cars to large trucks.

Augusta

City of Augusta Builds 2nd CNG Station

City of Augusta built their first CNG station on Tobacco Rd. in 2013 for the public and two companies who have contracted with the City to perform garbage collection services for City of Augusta using CNG trucks.  The City completed construction of a second station on Scott Nixon Memorial Dr. in 2017 and Atlanta Gas Light maintains both of these station for the City of Augusta.

DeKalb County Sanitation Fuels Fleet with Renewable Natural Gas

DeKalb County Sanitation department has developed a landfill-gas to CNG project in Ellenwood, GA and is now fueling their fleet with renewable natural gas they produce at their own facility.  The County is operating about 200 vehicles (garbage trucks, transfer trucks, shuttle buses, sedans, etc.) and will eventually transition all 300 of their sanitation vehicles to CNG.
