Atlanta Gas Light employees bring joy to young boy in Jonesboro

It was a normal workday and a leak call that brought Atlanta Gas Light’s metro south team out to a house in Jonesboro. The team led by Robert Miles came out to the house to respond to the leak call but then realized it would be not just an ordinary day. The team was immediately drawn to Buddy, a boy who was watching the team work from his yard.

What turned into the team working and finishing making the area safe, then turned into a very new and special friend. Buddy tried on the teams’ hard hats while his mom looked on with a bright smile knowing how much this made his day.

The biggest surprise of all is when the metro south team decided to come back to celebrate Buddy’s birthday a few days later with balloons and cupcakes in the driveway of his home.

A few weeks went by and the team knew they wanted to do more and sure enough, Buddy became an honorary Atlanta Gas Light employee and visited the metro south service center for a day, sitting in trucks, taking a tour around the facility and having lunch. It wouldn’t be a complete day without the team presenting Buddy with a special surprise – a professional wrestling belt – a favorite of Buddy’s.

The metro south team showed not only their unwavering commitment to our customers and community, but also our values at Southern Company. Realizing that our customers can do just as much for us, as we can for them if we put them at the center of everything we do. Buddy has held a special place in all Atlanta Gas Light employees hearts and will continue to do so.

A few months later…

Buddy graduated school and celebrated with friends and family. Atlanta Gas Light was there to celebrate.
