Atlanta Gas Light keeps millions in Georgia warm during Winter Storms Cora and Enzo

Atlanta Gas Light’s commitment to providing safe and reliable natural gas to 1.7 million customers in the state of Georgia shined as Winter Storms Cora and Enzo swept across the Southeast.

As snow, sleet, and ice threatened to pose significant challenges to our customers and communities, Atlanta Gas Light’s dedicated employees prepared to respond to calls from customers in a safe and timely manner. In coordination with local and state officials and utility partners, the company activated on-call personnel to ensure natural gas services were maintained to keep customers warm.

Both storms resulted in record-breaking snowfall and freezing temperatures in Central Georgia and Metro Atlanta. The proactive measures taken allowed technicians to respond within 30 minutes to more than 300 leak calls, achieving zero safety incidents despite the hazardous environment.

Atlanta Gas Light will continue to monitor forecasts for additional severe winter weather conditions. Atlanta Gas Light encourages customers to follow these severe winter weather tips:

  • Exercise caution removing snow or ice from your natural gas vent or meter assembly. Use your hands or a broom, not a shovel, to brush away snow or ice from your meter and regulator. Shovels and other tools can damage the equipment.

  • Do not shovel snow up against your meter or vent or let excessive snow cover it.

  • If a natural gas meter is damaged or an underground gas line is exposed, leave the area immediately, call 911 and then dial Atlanta Gas Light’s 24-hour emergency response line at 1-877-427-4321, from a safe location.
