A Season of Giving: Atlanta Gas Light Foundation and Goodr provide a week of groceries to nearly 200 families

ATLANTA – December 23, 2024 – The holidays are a wonderful time to gather with family, friends and loved ones to celebrate annual traditions and create cherished memories. Enjoying a quality meal can make these moments even more special. Last week, nearly 200 local Atlanta families received a free week’s worth of groceries at a pop-up market at Atlanta’s First Baptist Church, sponsored by the Atlanta Gas Light Foundation and Goodr. In total, community volunteers distributed approximately 8,000 pounds of food to families in need – providing roughly 6,670 meals.

The event marked the fourth pop-up grocery market sponsored by Atlanta Gas Light or its charitable foundation.

Food insecurity impacts communities nationwide, causing individuals and families to choose between groceries and essential expenses like housing, childcare, education or healthcare. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 2023, more than 47 million people lived in food-insecure households. In Georgia, nearly 13% of individuals faced food insecurity.

“We are incredibly proud of the impact our ongoing partnership with the Atlanta Gas Light Foundation has had on addressing food insecurity across Atlanta’s communities in need.” said Jasmine Crowe-Houston, founder and CEO of Goodr. “It is a privilege to brighten the holidays for so many families each year, and we are excited about the lasting positive change we will continue to create together.”

This holiday season and beyond, Atlanta Gas Light, its foundation and Goodr are proud to unite to address food insecurity throughout Atlanta’s neighborhoods.

“Our partnership with Goodr is about enhancing the quality of life in the communities we serve. Together, we are enriching our neighborhoods by providing access to quality food and essential resources to support those in need throughout the year,” said Tiffany Callaway-Ferrell, Atlanta Gas Light Vice President of Operations. “We deeply support Goodr’s mission to address socio-economic challenges communities face, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

Collectively, Atlanta Gas Light and the Atlanta Gas Light Foundation have provided a total of $435,000 in funding for the Goodr pop-up markets and the Goodr Foundation grocery store inside Young Middle School. These separate gifts are part of ongoing charitable initiatives led by Atlanta Gas Light’s parent company, Southern Company Gas, which gave more than $15 million to nonprofits focused on social justice, economic mobility, environmental stewardship and community enrichment in 2023.
