We strive to uplift and empower the areas where we live, work and serve through charitable giving and volunteer efforts that fuel possibilities, improve communities and grant access to sustainable resources. We are intentionally focused on initiatives that inspire new ways of connecting and transforming the communities where we operate.
We are committed to supporting local businesses as well as statewide economies through active participation in state and local chambers of commerce, business organizations and investment programs. Our Georgia SEED program is designed to attract and retain jobs in our state and encourage new investment by making large equipment upgrades more accessible to our commercial and industrial customers. Our pipeline replacement program stands as a model for utilities across the country and has seen an investment of more than $2 billion in infrastructure since 1998. And, as we bring renewable gas solutions to market, we help to create local high-paying clean energy jobs and attract new businesses that rely on natural gas in their manufacturing processes or as a component in their products.
We have a longstanding commitment to minimizing our environmental impact. We strive to meet or exceed all state and federal laws and regulations, ensuring the protection of diverse habitats within our service areas. From the outset of a project, we make every effort to avoid impacting the environment, such as by rerouting projects around sensitive ecological areas. When impacts are unavoidable, we focus on minimizing them and are dedicated to restoring and mitigating any effects before, during, and after construction. Our goal is to return land, water, and other natural resources to their original conditions. We also seek opportunities to actively rejuvenate natural spaces within our service area. also look for ways to actively rejuvenate natural spaces in our service area.
We aim to address the essential needs of our customers beyond keeping the lights on. One of the ways we achieve this is through strategic direct investments in our community. For example, we provided a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross to help develop the Community Adaptation Program in Chatham County. This program aims to build resilient communities by forming hyper-local partnerships and mitigating the impact of disaster-caused displacement on our most vulnerable populations. Our contributions focus on supporting energy assistance, education, environmental stewardship, and community enrichment.
Our employees are deeply involved in various initiatives, collaborating with local organizations to address community needs and create positive impacts. We actively encourage our employees to participate in both company-sponsored and personal volunteer efforts, fostering a sense of teamwork and pride within our organization. As members of the communities where we live and work, volunteering allows us to uphold our commitment to strengthening these communities beyond financial investments. Volunteering is an opportunity for us to fulfill our promise to enhance the communities we serve.
