Atlanta Gas Light Foundation Fuels Workforce of Tomorrow with Donation to The Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program
$100,000 donation is part of the Southern Company Gas Charitable Foundation's commitment to advancing equity
ATLANTA – October 10, 2022 – The Atlanta Gas Light Foundation is donating $100,000 to The Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program (MYSP) to cover the costs of college-related expenses for Atlanta youth so that financial hardship is not a barrier for those seeking higher education.
The Atlanta Gas Light Foundation presented the donation to City of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens at the Mayor's 5K on the 5th Runway held on Oct. 8 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
“Equal access to education is foundational to a fair and equitable society,” said Atlanta Gas Light President and CEO Pedro Cherry. “By supporting The Mayor's Youth Scholarship Program, we hope to provide underserved youth a path out of poverty and help our city and state remain great places to live, work and serve.”
The gifts will be used to provide grants to students who want to attend post-secondary school with a focus on technical colleges.
“The contribution from the Atlanta Gas Light Foundation will provide Atlanta students with new opportunities to achieve success in a post-secondary technical school environment,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. “Investments like this enable our city’s young people to have equitable access to education as we continue to stay focused on creating a city of opportunity for all.”
